Copper is referred to as “ore from the island of Cyprus”, which is said to be one of the first places that it was discovered. Its high-quality appearance and scarcity already made copper a sought-after raw material in ancient times and this is still the case today. It is used in many areas in electrical engineering and installation technology as an excellent electrical and heat conductor. Another feature is its good formability, which makes copper a popular material for artists. It is also very popular as a material for coins.

Copper is used in many ways as an alloying component. Copper and zinc are combined to make brass. This alloy has higher corrosion protection and a higher degree of hardness than pure copper.
